There was a RP (probably several RPs) based off the oWoD (specifically - Vamps, Weres, and Hunters) that died back in 2007 that ran for a bit less than 2 years (RIP LBN!) so I definitely know it works.
Whether people are willing to try and put in EVERY bit and piece of mechanics from the books is up to the question (I personally would just forget about dice, ha ha ha) but, certainly, nearly anything can be reworked to be used in a forum system "D
